Game No. 52

Tonight, the Phillies begin a four-game series with the Dodgers, at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles. The Dodgers took 2 of 3 at CBP last month. The Phillies enter the series winners of six straight, and owners of baseball's best road record (19-6). Last night, J.A. Happ was again tremendous for the Phillies, throwing 7 shutout innings. Ryan Howard homered for the 16th time as well for the Phils. The Dodgers have the best record in baseball, despite missing suspended left fielder Manny Ramirez. They have won 4 of 7 and have a 9 1/2 game lead in the NL West entering play today. 

The Pitching Matchup:
  • Philadelphia: LHP Cole Hamels (3-2, 5.21 era) Hamels threw 7 innings and allowed just one earned run against the Dodgers in a no decision earlier this season. Hamels pitched 14 innings vs. LAD in the NLCS last year, and only allowed 3 runs. For his career in the regular season against LAD, Hamels is 1-0 with 2.14 era in 3 starts.
  • Los Angeles: LHP Clayton Kershaw (3-3, 4.34 era) The 21-year-old left hander is 0-2 with a 7.80 era in 3 career starts against the Phillies. Kershaw appeared in two games in last years NLCS, allowing a run over two innings pitched.
