Monday in the NL East

The Phillies got another strong performance from Fat Joe Blanton, as they beat the Padres 5-3. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs. Ryan Howard and Chase Utley hit back-to-back home runs for the Phillies who now lead the division by a game and a half. Brad Lidge recorded his 4th save in four days.
  • Antonio Bastardo makes his major league debut against Jake Peavy in game two of the series.
The Mets blew a 5-0 lead to the Pirates in Pittsburgh. J.J. Putz recorded his second blown save as he allowed 4 runs in the 8th inning before recording an out for the Mets. The Mets were unable to score from the 4th inning on, as they fell to 28-22 on the season.
  • Johan Santana faces Zach Duke of the Pirates in game two.
The Marlins beat the NL Central leading Brewers by a score of 7-4. After Andrew Miller came out in the 5th, the Marlins bullpen threw 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Hanley Remirez went 3-for-5 for the Fish, who improve to 24-28.
  • Manny Parra faces Anibal Sanchez of the Marlins in game two.
  • San Francisco sends Tim Lincecum against the Nationals' Craig Stammen.
  • The Cubs will go with Randy Wells against Atlanta's Kenshin Kawakami.
